Eligibility
Any owner of private land in the eight-county area of lower South Texas is eligible: Brooks, Cameron, Hidalgo, Jim Hogg, Kenedy, Starr, Willacy and Zapata.

When
Registration takes place January 2007 through February 29, 2008. Photographs are to be taken April 1, 2008, through June 30, 2008.

Land Use
Landowners establish the qualifications of eligible photographers to contact them, access to the land and the rules of conduct on the premises. Landowners may require photographers to sign a release of liability form and show proof of personal liability insurance before allowing access.

Landowner Teams
Two landowners may team together, provided that at least one of the properties has never registered any prior VLF photo contest and provided that the total acreage (of combined entry) does not exceed 2,000 acres.

The Landowner/Photographer Team
The landowner is entering the contest with land, habitat and wildlife, making him/her an equal partner in the venture. The photographer takes all photographs and selects which ones are submitted in the contest. Landowners who actively participate with their photographers and have the most diverse habitat have the best chance of winning.  Landowners and photographers may enter the South Texas Shootout or the Small Tract Competition  -  but not both with the same piece of land.  However a landowner may have non-contiguous tracts that meet the parameters of both competitions.  That Landowner may enter one in the South Texas Shootout and the other in the Small Tract Competition.

Entry Fees
$550 for landowner entry (individual or team of two landowners)
Landowners in this contest pay one entry fee, regardless of the property size.  Landowners who choose to have more than one registered photographer on their property must pay a separate entry fee for each registered photographer.
$50 discount if registered & paid by 12/31/2007
